Pot grow house busted in Gresham

Posted: Updated:

Gresham police raided a home after receiving a tip from a neighbor and found a pot-growing operation valued at $145,000.

Detectives with the special enforcement team served a search warrant at 1848 Southwest 33rd Ave. on Monday afternoon. They forced their way inside and found 175 mature marijuana plants, 1,000 plant starts and 25 pounds of processed marijuana buds.

Police estimated the value at $130,000. They also found $15,000 worth of fans, air filters and grow lamps.

Police said the home had been extensively rewired and they are working with Portland General Electric to determine if power was stolen.

"I wasn't expecting anything like this," said neighbor Celina Chart. "It's not normal here. Everything is pretty quiet in this neighborhood."

Police said the home is a rental property, but neighbors didn't know who the tenant was and few had seen anyone visit the property.

"I didn't see anybody coming or going and I walk my kids around the neighborhood many times so I was just kind of surprised," said Mia McCormick, who saw police cleaning out the home.

Police said there is no suspect information to release and they are seeking tips.
