PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Former NFL quarterback and University of Oregon football star Joey Harrington was injured Sunday night while riding his bicycle in southeast Portland, police said.
Lt. Robert King, a police spokesman, said Harrington was struck while riding his bike at the intersection of southeast Foster Road and southeast 88th Avenue.
The Traffic Division was called out to conduct the investigation and officers determined Harrington was traveling west on Foster when he was struck from behind by a vehicle.
Officers identified the driver as 26-year-old Derek Johnson. He was driving a Toyota RAV-4 and was traveling west on southeast Foster when he struck Harrington's rear wheel, causing the crash, officers said.
Johnson stayed on scene and cooperated with officers, police said.
Harrington was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Johnson was ticketed for following too close.
Harrington is reportedly in Portland for the Brian Grant Foundation annual fundraiser "Shake It Till We Make It." The two day fundraiser is being held both Sunday and Monday.
Harrington played at the University of Oregon and was then drafted by the Detroit Lions, where he starred as their quarterback. He went on to play for the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, and New Orleans Saints.
