Truck driver arrested for DUI on I-5

Posted: Updated:

Washington State Troopers arrested Kenneth Wiltse for allegedly driving his semitrailer truck northbound on I-5 while under the influence of alcohol this morning.

Approximately 1:30 a.m., an Oregon off-duty officer noticed Wiltse, 41, driving his 80,000 pound semitrailer erratically north of Vancouver.

The officer contacted Washington State Police who then contacted the Port of Entry scales in an attempt to stop Wiltse at the next weigh station.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer, Bill Richardson was able to stop the driver and noticed an odor of intoxicants coming from the semi. The driver was also slurring his speech, according to Richardson.

Wiltse's blood alcohol level was tested at over four times the legal limit for a commercial vehicle driver, police say.

In addition to the DUI arrest, Witse was placed out of service for 24 hours and a citation was issued for a logbook violation.
