PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon State Police detective Aaron Jackson said 26-year-old Scott Brandon turned himself in Monday night after being sought in connection to a campsite stabbing in Clatsop County.

Brandon was arrested Aug. 1 at the OSP Portland Area Command office and lodged in the Clackamas County Jail for assault in the second-degree. Brandon is suspected of stabbing 30-year-old Jeremy Peat in the abdomen after the two became involved in a verbal argument.

OSP said Brandon is alleged to have sprayed Peat in the face with a chemical agent similar to mace before stabbing him. Both men were part of a large group of about 50 people camping near Wolf Creek Road about five miles north of Highway 26 in Clatsop County on July 30.

Brandon was eventually overpowered and disarmed by other campers. He then fled on foot into the woods. A search that evening by troopers and deputies failed to find him.

Peat was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
