PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police say an unarmed man who called a radio station and threatened to shoot up Ron Russell Middle School is being questioned by officers.

Newsradio 101FM KXL received a phone call at about 1 p.m. Tuesday from a man who claimed he had a gun and planned to shoot up the school, located at 3955 SE 112th Ave. The radio station promptly called 911 to alert police, and several officers were sent to the school to investigate.

When officers arrived, they detained the man. A Portland Police Bureau spokesman says he didn't have guns on him or in his car.

Police say the man was upset because he felt the school lunch program wasn't adequate.

At this point, he  hasn't been arrested and charged.

A spokesman for the David Douglas School District says children were at the school at the time of the threat. The school hosts a summer lunch program.
