State Rep. Eyre says she won't run for Congress

HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

A GOP candidate has announced she won't seek a nomination in the special election to replace former Congressman David Wu.

In a statement Wednesday, State Representative Katie Eyre Brewer said it would be impossible for her to focus on a congressional run while still fulfilling her responsibilities.

Eyre Brewer also posted on her Facebook page, "Friends and supporters: Thank you for encouraging me to seek the First Congressional District nomination. The grass roots are alive and well! After much thought, and desiring to do what's best for Oregon, my family, and myself, I have decided not to seek this nomination at this time. Rather, I will continue to focus serving you as your state legislator from the heart and soul of Washington County."

Eyer Brewer's decision makes Tualatin business man Rob Cornilles the only major GOP candidate in the race.

Wu stepped down earlier this month following allegations that he had an inappropriate sexual relationship with an 18-year-old girl.
