Charges against Darcelle dropped after arrest at club

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Charges against Portland celebrity and nightclub owner Walter "Darcelle" Cole have been dropped, according to workers at the county courthouse.

Cole, Portland's most famous drag queen, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on harassment charges last night after Portland police say he had an altercation with OLCC workers.

Officers said the altercation happened after a cadet from the Oregon Liquor Control Commission went into Darcelle XV's and was able to purchase an alcoholic drink. The teenage cadet was under 21 years old.

OLCC workers then moved in to inform Cole and his business partner, 75-year-old Roxy Neubardt, of the violation. That's when Cole, Neuhardt and the OLCC workers became involved in the altercation, police say.

Neuhardt suffered a non-life-threatening medical episode and was taken to a hospital. He was taken to a hospital and was also cited on one count of harassment.

Police arrested Cole, 80, and hauled him off to jail.

Cole paid his bail, and this afternoon, the harassment charges were dropped. It wasn't immediately clear why the charges were dismissed.

Portland police and OLCC were conducting a furnishing alcohol to minors sweep in the downtown area last night.

"Darcelle" and the rest of his female impersonators are well known locally for their Las Vegas-style cabaret revues in downtown Portland.

The Darcelle XV Showplace is located on Northwest Third Avenue in the Old Town district.
