PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
An up-and-coming Portland band credits the power of social media with leading police to their stolen music equipment.
Portugal. The Man was playing at Lollapalooza in Chicago last week when someone stole their van and trailer containing all of their gear.
After the theft, fans took to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to urge people to look for the stolen equipment.
Soon after, someone called police with a tip that led officers to the equipment.
A couple of the band's members plan to fly to Chicago on Tuesday to inspect the recovered gear.
"It makes us feel really good. You know you never. Sometimes it takes something really bad to realize how many friends you have or how many friends are willing to support and help. And we just couldn't believe it. It was really amazing," says Zach Carothers, of Portugal. The Man.
In the meantime, the band will be using borrowed equipment to play a fundraiser at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. That show is at 7 p.m. Monday.
