PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The stars of "Portlandia" are helping a local nonprofit stay in business.
Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen are hosting a fundraiser this weekend for the In Other Words Feminist Community Center in northeast Portland.
The duo filmed several skits at the center as part of the Independent Film Channel's comedy show.
The scenes actually mocked the feminist movement a bit, but those who work at the community center say they have a sense of humor and are thrilled the stars are lending their support.
Worker say they believe the event will help build awareness for the center, which welcomes people from all walks of life.
"We definitely welcome anyone. We welcome men, women, transgender people, anyone, no matter how you identify with your gender or sexuality. You are welcome here," says Lauren McCartney, board chair of In Other Words.
The center has been open for 18 years but has struggled financially like many nonprofits in recent years.
The fundraiser is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday and is open to the public.
"Portlandia" is shot in Portland and highlights the area's stranger side.
