PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The family of retired football star Joey Harrington have put on several summer concerts with their foundation, but the one held Monday night has a whole new meaning.

Two weeks ago, Harrington was hit by a car while riding his bike in Southeast Portland.

The crash left him with a broken collar bone and a punctured lung, but he lived.

Harrington credits his helmet for that.

"Going back and looking at my bike and looking at my helmet and the way that things could have turned out, I'm really lucky to be in the position that I am right now," he says. " And that's healthy and walking around and still able to spend time with my family."

The Harrington Family Foundation works to support kids. It has been putting on the concerts since 2002, the year Harrington was drafted by the NFL.

Monday's concert featured Portugal. The Man, who earlier credited fans with helping them find their equipment that was stolen at Lollapalooza.
