MCMINNVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

An accused burglar is finally behind bars after he ransacked at least five homes and cars this month, McMinnville police say.

At the McMinnville police station Monday, investigators gave FOX 12 a show-and-tell of evidence they recovered from Jason Torres' home.

Last week, officers say, they picked up Torres on a parole violation and when they searched his home, they found items from five recent burglaries and car break-ins.

The evidence includes iPods, cell phones, jewelry, loose change and several coin collections.  One collection has 254 precious coins wrapped separately and labeled.

Detective Bill Christensen says it's very unusual that they're able to find stolen property before the thief can sell it, so he's been enjoying calling the victims with good news.

"Usually, they're very relieved and very happy," said Christensen. "Most people are quite surprised because they know like we do -- it's pretty rare that something like that's going to come back to them."

Investigators still need to reunite much of the stolen property to the rightful owners. If you think any of the items could be yours, call McMinnville police.
