PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Six teens, ranging in age from 13 to 16 years old, were injured late Friday night in a gang-related shooting in North Portland, police say.

Police called the shooting an attack on the teens.

"This was not a random act," said Assistant Chief of Investigations Eric Hendricks. "To be candid, what we saw last night was nothing less than an ambush."

Emergency dispatchers say the shooting happened in the area of North Jessup and North Albina at 11:20 p.m.

Spokesperson Lt. Robert King says numerous people called 911 to report shots fired in the area.

When police got on scene they found six teens who had been shot.

Police say it appears all of the injuries are non-life threatening and all six victims were taken to local hospitals.

"My heart and thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families," said Portland Mayor Sam Adams. "These are very, very young men, young Portlanders."

Detectives from the Forensic Evidence Division and Gang Enforcement Team were called out. There was a large crime scene and police closed several roads in the area as they started their investigation.

Witnesses told police there were two shooters and that the suspects ran from the scene.

Police said no arrests have been made.

Because of the shooting, the Gang Enforcement Team and gang outreach workers will be doing a maximum effort tonight and throughout the next several days to prevent any additional violence.

Police called on the public to become more involved in helping them stop gang violence. Anyone who sees or hear anything to could escalate into something serious is urge to call police.

Anyone who has information on this shooting is asked to call Detective Mitch Hergert at 503-823-2081.
