For 10 years friends and families of recovering addicts have come together to show their continuing support by holding hands across the interstate bridge.
On Monday thousands joined hands spanning the Columbia River from Oregon to Washington to help kick off National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
"We like to come together as a group to celebrate recovery," one event attendee named Tami said. "We're like a family here and one of our main goals in holding an event like this is to bring a bridge from the community to the recovering people so that we can see we're all part of the same community."
The celebration is organized by the 400 Oxford Houses of Oregon and Washington. The groups provide drug-free housing for people fighting drug and alcohol addiction.
