Man causes power outage in Gresham

Posted: Updated:
GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

Approximately 2:40 p.m. a man was driving a trailer loaded with a backhoe in Gresham today when it snagged low hanging cables.

The cables snagged and clipped by the backhoe were either cable or phone lines.

The clipping of the lines caused the support poles to snap back drastically and caused two PGE power lines sway and come in contact with each other.

The contact shorted out the power to 150 customers near SE Lincoln Street and SE 174th Avenue.

There is not an estimate when power will be restored to the area.

No word if the driver of the trailer would be cited for the accident.
