HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -
At a ceremony held in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, representatives from the Hillsboro School District learned that Farmington View Elementary School had won the 2011 Intel Schools of Distinction Award for its outstanding science programs.
The award recognizes schools for their demonstrated excellence in either math or science education.
Farmington View won $5000 when it was selected out of 156 applications from 38 states as one of 18 nationwide finalists.
For taking top honors, Farmington View will earn an additional $5,000 cash award as well as goods and services for a total prize package worth more than $100,000.
"Winning this award is a testament to the incredible efforts of the staff and community," said Principal Roger Will.
Farmington View offers students learning opportunities through their partnership with the Jackson Bottom Wetlands, their weather station, engineering and architecture projects, Junior Naturalist program, Kids Saving Earth and Robotics Clubs and many other programs.
