Oregon soldier killed in Afghanistan remembered

Posted: Updated:

Master Sgt. Danial Adams was remembered as a man who loved life, laughing, his family and his St. Bernards.

Friends and family remembered the Green Beret at a memorial service at Camp Withycombe in Clackamas on Saturday.  He was leading a special forces team when he was killed in a firefight with insurgents in Afghanistan's Wardak Province.

"He had one infectious smile," Adams' father recalled.  "Even if he was mad, or you were arguing with him, which we did a lot, he would just smile, like, 'Aw, dad lighten up' and that was it. He was just a good kid."

Adams was born in Scappoose.

Adams is survived by his wife, three children and his parents.

A formal funeral service is scheduled next week at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
