PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Traffic came to a standstill Monday afternoon after a small dog got loose on Interstate 84 near 82nd Avenue.

Many drivers stopped and tried to corral the dog, named Mango, but it dodged each would-be Good Samaritan. The dog's owner said the Pomeranian got out of her collar at a nearby Max stop.

"I was just hoping that she calmed down and that she got off the freeway so she didn't get hit," said owner Linda Dowdy.

After bolting east on westbound I-84, Mango then headed up a ramp into a more residential area near 67th Avenue.

The dog and its owners were reunited shortly after near Madison High School.

"She could have been hit so easily running down the freeway like that," said Dan Dowdy, one of the dog's owners. "I'm so relieved."

Mango ran for about two miles before stopping and caused a traffic disruption for more than 15 minutes.
