TIGARD, OR (KPTV) -
A local high school teacher is being recognized for his excellent work in the classroom.
Frank Caro teaches social studies at Tigard High School.
During an assembly this morning, he was given the Milken Family Foundation National Education Award, which includes a $25,000 cash award.
Caro says he tries to see the learning environment from a student's
perspective when he comes up with his lesson plans. "I love teaching. I
try to make teaching dramatic if I can. I really try to make it so that
it comes alive in the sense that whatever I'm teaching is something they
find interesting," said Caro.
Caro thanked his colleagues and students at the assembly.
The Milken Educator Awards were established in 1987 by Lowell Milken to reward, retain, and attract the highest caliber teachers in the profession.
"We created the Milken Educator Awards to proclaim in a very public way that greatness in education must be recognized and rewarded. As the program's motto extols, the future belongs to the educated," said Lowell Milken, chairman and co-founder of the Milken Family Foundation.
Recipients of the award are recommended to the Foundation by an independent blue ribbon panel appointed by each participating state's department of education.
