PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

With one giant food donation, the Portland Police Bureau's Sunshine Division got a boost of 100,000 meals that it can now use to feed the area's hungry families.

Smithfield, Safeway and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union donated 30,000 pounds of ham on Thursday.

All of that translates to about 100,000 servings.

"You've got the dinner, then you've got the ham sandwiches afterwards and then when you get near the bone, you've got the ham and bean soup. So, this is multiple meals," said Portland Officer Phillip Kent. "That's tremendous to a family that's struggling on a tight budget."

The Sunshine Division said the ham donation is the single largest donation it has ever received.
