Knife-wielding man raped Vancouver woman in her home, police say

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Vancouver police say a woman was raped in her home Tuesday afternoon when a stranger came to her door.

According to detectives, the suspect knocked on the door at the home near Stapleton Road and Fourth Plain Boulevard and told the victim he was selling magazine subscriptions.

He then pulled out a knife and forced his way in.

The suspect is described as a dark skinned black male, 30 to 35 years old, 6' tall, 180 pounds, short afro, unshaven with a slight beard and mustache. He was wearing a red jacket with a hood.  He had a thin, gold hoop earring on his right ear and a thin, vertical scar on the left side of his neck.

The knife was a dagger style with a brown handle and a 12-inch blade that was slightly curved at the tip.

Neighbors said they can't imagine what the victim went through.

"That's scary because you don't know if you're going to die or live or what," said Leticia Tirado. "All kinds of things would be running through my mind like what's going to happen, is he going to make me suffer?"

Other neighbors said they were concerned about the timing of the attack, 3:00 in the afternoon.

"Most of us at home are stay-at-home moms or we take care of our grandkids," said Otilia Patino. "I think we should have community meetings or at least be able to talk to our local police department and see what we can do as residents of the area."

Police haven't released the exact address of the attack to protect the victim, but it happened just blocks away from a police department.

If you have any information on this attack, contact Detective Darren McShea (360) 487-7431 or Detective Barb Knoeppel (360) 487-7436.
