Police say three men leaving the Occupy Portland protest were arrested Sunday morning after police found explosives devices in their car near Salem. They were pulled over for speeding on I-5.
The three say they are part of the Occupy Portland movement and brought explosives to the demonstration last night.
They planned to use the explosives if the protest escalated into a violent confrontation between the protesters and the police.
The driver was identified as 21-year-old William Patterson, along with 21-year-old Emery Luff, and 20-year-old Zachary Salzwedel-Kemp from Klamath Falls.
When police searched the vehicle, marijuana, firecrackers, two big motor shells in glass jars, two gas masks, goggles and a safety helmet were found.
The three men deny any involvement of the incident earlier in the night, when a firework was thrown at a police officer.
All three were arrested and booked at the Marion County Jail.
