PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The Portland Police Bureau's response to Occupy Portland marches, protests and park encampments have cost the city more than $1 million in overtime charges.
A Portland police spokesman says the total cost, as of Tuesday, is $1.29 million.
The overtime costs skyrocketed earlier this month when the city booted Occupy protesters out of three downtown parks, ending their month-long stay. Overtime charges that day alone were said to be more than $500,000.
There was a big police response again roughly 10 days later when Occupy and N17 protesters staged a sit-in protest on the Steel Bridge, and then marched bank to bank in downtown Portland. There were 49 arrests made that day.
