ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -

The Coast Guard towed a distressed fishing boat to safety in Astoria on Wednesday.

The search and rescue station Cape Disappointment got a distress call from the boat early that morning. It stated they had lost steering in poor weather about 21 miles northwest of Clatsop Spit.

A six-man crew took a rescue boat out at around 1 p.m. and had to maneuver through 10- to 14-foot swells for an hour-and-a-half before reaching the boat and taking it in tow.

The fishing vessel also had around 22 tons of catch on board.

The Coast Guard was able to get the boat and the catch safely back to Cape Disappointment by 1 a.m. Thursday.

No injuries were reported.
