Terminal at Port of Portland to remain closed

Posted: Updated:

One of two Port of Portland terminals targeted by protesters will remain closed Monday after a contract operator decided conditions remained unsafe.

An official of the company says the terminal will be closed for the second shift, which begins at 6 p.m. and reopens Tuesday at 8 a.m.

There was no immediate word about plans for the other terminal that drew a couple of hundred Occupy Portland protesters early Monday.

The Port of Portland shut down the two terminals after police arrested two people and seized weapons in the hours before a demonstration. Limited operations were reported at the port's two other terminals.

Police say the suspects were in camouflage clothing with a gun, sword and walkie-talkies who said they were doing reconnaissance.

Port of Portland officials say about 325 longshore labor jobs were affected Monday, in addition to about 200 truck drivers.
