Teen killed in early morning car accident

Oregon State Police is investigating a deadly single vehicle accident that happened Wednesday morning along the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 south of Myrtle Creek.

The crash resulted in the death of a 16-year old Megan Phariss, a passenger in the car, and non-life threatening injuries to the 17-year old Paige Williams, the driver.

The Honda Accord the pair were traveling in left the road for some reason at about 7:50 a.m. and rolled.

The car came to rest on its top in a field next to the freeway.

Williams was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center. She is a student at South Umpqua High School.

Phariss was pronounced deceased at the scene. She attended Riddle Charter School.

Both were using safety restraints.

Road conditions were described as dry at the time of the crash
