The economic crisis is forcing Legacy Health Systems to make some major decisions.
The Legacy Health Systems reported 400 layoffs are possible in its six hospitals.
A spokesperson for Legacy says a gap in Medicaid reimbursement of nearly $30 million is responsible.
The hospital has a steering committee working to see where the layoffs will need to come from.
The spokesperson says it will all depend on what positions are open and what positions need to be filled, as well as who may be retiring.
He says they hope to know by mid January how many positions may need to be laid off, and once the committee comes to a decision, the layoffs are expected by Feb. 15.
The hospital has notified workers and began to communicate with the staff, letting them know that layoffs are coming.
