PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A local family got an early Christmas present Tuesday thanks to a national car donation program called Recycled Rides.

The program brought together volunteers and workers at Fix Auto Collision in northwest Portland to rebuild a Toyota Camry

They donated it to the Smith family whose 18-month-old daughter was recently diagnosed with Hurler syndrome, a rare hereditary disease that can be deadly.

Jaydn Smith will have a bone marrow transplant next month and the refurbished car will help her and her parents get around.

Miranda Smith, Jaydn's mother, told Fox 12, "It's amazing that everyone could participate and do this for us. I think this is an amazing, amazing opportunity."

Along with the car, the family also got a car seat, Fred Meyer gas cards and toys.
