Man attacked couple with Tiki torch, deputies say

Posted: Updated:

Washington County deputies say they arrested a man after he broke into an Aloha home on Christmas morning and attacked a couple with a Tiki torch.

Matthew Zamora, 28, is accused of breaking into the home in the 3100 block of Southwest 209th Street through a back door while the couple slept.

They told deputies that Zamora swung the torch at the husband and hit him. The homeowner then grabbed a handgun and pointed it at Zamora, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies say Zamora hit the man's hand, causing the gun to go off. Nobody was hit.

Zamora ended up climbing out of a bathroom window, investigators say. He was only wearing  underwear, socks and a bandana around his neck when he was arrested, according to deputies.

Authorities say they suspect Zamora was under the influence of drugs.

Zamora is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, providing false information to police, menacing, criminal mischief and an unrelated felony warrant. He's being held at the Washington County Jail on $50,000 bail.
