LOS ANGELES (KPTV) -
New Year's Eve was anything but ordinary for the Oregon Ducks
and Wisconsin Badgers this year.
With the Rose Bowl game just two days away, they've
put celebrations on hold — with their focus set on the prize.
Head coaches from both teams met with the media Saturday
morning in Los Angeles.
"If you get to a BCS game, you're not going to
play a team where you're the 30 point favorites. It's going to be a challenge and that's the
part we look forward to," said Ducks coach Chip Kelly.
"To be with Coach Kelly on a national stage is a great opportunity for our program to grow, especially two years back to back
in 'the Grand Daddy of Them All,' is absolutely outstanding," said Wisconsin coach Brett Bielema.
When asked about New Year's Eve plans, Coach Kelly
joked, "We're actually flying to New York City to see the ball drop first."
He quickly added that his players have not been
out past 10:00 since arriving in California. No crazy parties and no new year's resolutions
either.
"You better live your life the right way
every single day and not wait until, start it over every year. I've never been a new year's
resolution guy," Kelly explained.
But for fans, there's plenty to do.
In Old Town Pasadena, folks at the Haven Gastropub
have kicked off Beer Bowl: a special fundraising event aimed at honoring both teams.
The restaurant has assigned one beer for each
college—Rogue Ales' Dead Guy for the Ducks and Leinenkugel for the Badgers.
At the end of the game on January 2nd, the beer
purchased most will be declared the winner and 100 percent of profits from that beer will be donated back to the team's university.
Which one is winning so far?
"It's about a dead heat right now. We're
at about half time and we have an even keel right now," pub co-owner Will Dee said.
"For the Beer Bowl, my prediction would be for the Rogue Dead Guy ale.
Only because it's my favorite of the two," pub co-owner Greg Daniels added.
