Investigators suspect West Hills burglaries are connected

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Sheriff's detectives suspect a burglary committed this weekend in the West Hills may be connected to several other break-ins during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The burglaries happened at houses in the area of Barnes Road and Skyline Boulevard, just outside Portland city limits in Washington County.

Investigators report seeing similarities in the crimes: A burglar breaks a window in houses where the owners are believed to be away.

On Thanksgiving Day, someone broke in to a house near Southwest Skyline Boulevard and Barnes Road. Investigators also looked at a home on Southwest Fairview, where a window was broken.

Over this past holiday weekend, a burglar entered another house on Barnes Road to steal jewelry and other property.

Some neighbors are on the alert, heeding police warnings after the Thanksgiving break-ins.  Others heard the word at a neighborhood pizza place.

"I've heard one of the houses got broken in to," says Pizzicato manager Jim Duncan. "The owners live right up there. They were really frustrated. They didn't really want to talk about it. What a way to come home from Thanksgiving or whatever. Definitely some frustration around here."

As residents continue to return home from the holidays, investigators ask that anyone with information about the burglaries call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 503-629-0111.
