PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police are investigating an attack on a girl on a MAX train that was headed northbound near the Foster Road stop in Southeast Portland.

Cell phone video posted on the Internet shows three females beating the girl, who was sitting in a seat at the time, while others appear to be celebrating the attack.

TriMet's command center was notified about the incident at the time and called police to respond, but it was over by the time they got to the train, officials said.

Police don't know the motive for the attack, and no one came forward to file a complaint, but someone sent TriMet the video last week and it was passed on to police.

Portland police identified the victim, but she didn't want to press charges, officials said.

TriMet officials said the attack happened on a MAX Green Line train Dec. 26. They said video surveillance from the train was downloaded, but the video file couldn't be opened due to technical issues.

Riders at the stop near where the attack happened were appalled.

"I think that that's very ridiculous and I think young girls, it's time for them to realize that it's really time for them to grow up," MAX rider Molly Lawson said.

"It kind of blew me away looking at it," MAX rider Robert Schellong said.

Officials didn't know how badly the girl was injured.

TriMet said these types of incidents are infrequent. The transit agency's Twitter account described the fight as "disturbing," and asked riders to call 911 or notify the operator if they ever see something similar on a train or bus.
