A big is weekend ahead for commercial and sport crabbing along the Oregon coast.
On Jan. 15, the coast from Gold Beach southward will be open to Dungeness crabbing. The opening means crabbing will be allowed along the entire Oregon coast.
Normally, Dungeness crab season begins Dec. 1, but the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife say the season was delayed because crab did not meet the minimum pre-season quality testing.
Commercial crabbers are allowed to set up three days before the start of the season, so people visiting the southern coast should expect to see lights of the crab boats prior to Sunday.
Sport crabbing is open year-round in bays and estuaries.
