ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -
Hazardous conditions have prompted the closure of multiple river bars in Oregon and Washington.
The Coast Guard has closed the bars at the Siuslaw River, Yaquina Bay, Depoe Bay, Tillamook Bay, and the Columbia River bar in Oregon, as well as at the Quillayute River in Washington.
Coast Guard personnel will continue to evaluate the closures, and say they will re-open the waterways as soon as the offshore weather improves.
Meanwhile, witnesses are reporting tremendous waves on the Oregon coast, where there is a High Wind Warning in effect. Gusts of up to 75 miles per hour are possible on open beaches, while coastal communities can expect gusts up to 60 mph.
The High Wind Warning expires at 6 p.m. tonight.
