LA CENTER, WA (KPTV) -

A suspected prowler at a La Center home has died after being shot by a homeowner early Tuesday morning, sheriff's deputies said.

Clark County sheriff's deputies said they received a 911 call about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday about a prowler in the 900 block of northwest Pacific Highway.

While deputies were on their way to the scene, the homeowner called 911 again, reporting he had shot the alleged intruder outside the house.

When deputies arrived, they found Barry Parnel, 29, in the driveway. He had a gunshot wound to the chest and abdomen.

Parnel was rushed to PeaceHealth Medical Center, where he later died.

Investigators said the homeowner initially told them he heard a noise and found the prowler.

The homeowner and his wife, who was also at home at the time of the alleged incident, were not hurt. They did not know the suspect, deputies said.

Detectives from the Clark County Major Crimes Unit are still investigating the shooting. They said no arrests have been made.
