ALOHA, OR (KPTV) -
A man is in custody after a fatal shooting outside a busy Aloha grocery store.
Washington County deputies got a call at about 3:15 p.m. Thursday that someone had been shot outside the Thriftway on Southwest Farmington and Kinnaman roads.
The victim, a 22-year-old man, died near the store's vending machines, authorities say.
A car was seen leaving the scene and deputies tracked it for several miles to Roy Rogers and Daffodil roads in Sherwood. They then took Jeffrey Brian Johnson, 52, into custody without incident.
Deputies say there were many people in the area when the shooting occurred.
"I actually heard the gunshots go off and they were kind of sporadic, like they were trying to hurry up. I initially thought the bank was getting robbed," says Randall Ramey.
The sheriff's office say Johnson and the victim knew each other, but they wouldn't elaborate on specifics.
Johnson is charged with murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
