Detectives: Man found dead inside Salem SUV is victim of homicide

Detectives say a man found dead inside a running SUV Friday morning in Salem was the victim of a crime. 

The victim is Rogelio Hernandez-Davalos, 25. Detectives believe he lived in the Portland-area. The State Medical Examiner's Office determined he died as a result of homicidal violence.

No other details about how he died or a possible motive have been released.

A passerby called 911 at about 1:15 a.m. to report a driver that was possibly stranded along the 4400 block of Cordon Road Northeast.

Arriving deputies found the man slumped behind the wheel. The Ford Explorer's hazard lights had been turned on.

Homicide investigators were called to the scene, along with the District Attorney's and medical examiner's offices.

Cordon Road was closed between Ward Drive Northeast and Hayesville Drive for the investigation.
