Police identify man killed in Foster Road hit-and-run

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police are continuing their search for a hit-and-run driver who is responsible for the death of a Vancouver man.

Jason Grant, 26, tried to cross Southeast Foster Road near 70th Avenue on Saturday at 7 p.m. As he crossed, an eastbound vehicle struck Grant, police said, and the driver didn't stop.

Officers and paramedics found Grant in the street after responding to the crash. An ambulance transported him to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries, police say.

The vehicle that struck Grant may be a pickup or an SUV with front-end damage, possible hood damage and possibly a damaged radiator, due to the large amount of fluid at the scene and trailing off to the east, Portland police investigators say.

"It's bloody awful," said Bob Wadle, who lives nearby. "I don't care if you're on your third strike. You just don't do something like that."

Police say it appears Grant was crossing from the north sidewalk to the south sidewalk on Foster Road. He was not in a crosswalk at the time, they said.

Roy Miller, who works nearby, says he witnessed the aftermath of the crash.

"I stepped out there and there were a bunch of people surrounding some dude lying on the ground," he said. "And a woman was doing CPR. It was just crazy."

The police bureau is asking for the public's help in finding the vehicle that struck and killed Grant, who lived in the Burnt Bridge Creek area of northeast Vancouver.

Anyone with information is asked to e-mail Officer Erik Koppang at erik.koppang@portlandoregon.gov.
