PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police say a pair of armed car prowlers roughed up two Smart Park employees at a downtown parking garage.

It happened at the Smart Park on Southwest Third Avenue and Alder Street just before 6 a.m. Monday.

The victims told officers they ran into two men on the eighth floor and it looked like they had just broken into a car.

It turns out, police say, the car belonged to one of the Smart Park workers.

The workers then confronted the men and police say one of them started hitting both victims with a metal pipe.

Police say the other man was armed with a handgun, but did not fire any shots.

The victims told detectives that the suspected car prowlers eventually ran into the stairwell at Southwest Third Avenue and Morrison Street. One suspect had a backpack taken from the victim's car, police say.

Medics took one of the workers to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other was treated at the scene.

The suspects are described as white men in their 20's, 5'8" to 5'10" tall with slim to medium builds. They were wearing black hoodies at the time of the incident and one of them had a shaved head.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mike Smith at 503-823-0871
