The Terra Nova Farm will continue to operate and be available for student internships, school field trips and community shares, the school district says.
BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -
Terra Nova School in Beaverton will close at the end of this school year, school district officials say.
The decision to close the school is partially driven by the budget situation in the Beaverton School District, which has not been able to staff the alternative program fully.
But school district administrators also say they've been examining the future of the school recently, and declining enrollment was a major factor in the decision to close it down.
There were 46 students enrolled in the school this year, down from 58 in 2009-10.
The closure in June will bring an end to the school's three-year stint with the Beaverton School District. Prior to that, the school was part of the Northwest Regional Education Service District.
A parent meeting will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Beaverton School District Administrative Office to share plans about the transition for existing students.
