The Rose City took center stage in Wednesday's episode of American Idol. If you watched, you know one of the hopefuls who made it to Hollywood hails from Vancouver, WA.
"The American Idol experience is one of the best experiences I've ever been through in my life," contestant Britnee Kellogg told Fox 12. "It's a way to get my music out there and get people to know my story."
Kellogg, 27, sang Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good" after explaining to judges that she helped her ex-husband, a basketball player, chase his dreams, but he ending up chasing other women.
The single mom brought her sons and family to October's audition in Portland - an experience she describes as nerve wracking.
"I totally remember the moment when I walked in," said Kellogg. "It was incredible; it was totally surreal. Jennifer Lopez is glowing and beautiful and so kind. (The judges) were very welcoming to me. It was scary but exciting."
Kellogg said this last try was her fourth time trying out for American Idol. It was her first time in front of the judges' panel.
"We're so proud of her," said Kellogg's mom, Diane Dunning. "We've known since she was a young girl that we would be here today."
Family, friends, co-workers and a growing fan base watched the episode with Kellogg at a special watch party hosted by 99.5 The Wolf. Radio hosts Mike and Amy encouraged Kellogg to audition for Idol this past October.
In November, Kellogg performed her own song, "Home," opening for Idol alum Kellie Pickler at The Wolf's Holiday Show.
As for this season, Kellogg has to keep quiet.
"I can't say how far I made it in the competition, but Hollywood starts next week," she said. "Stay tuned."
She did share with Fox 12 one of the most important lessons she's learned from the experience.
"It's an incredible way to find out who you are, and staying true to yourself," said Kellogg.
