PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man accused of taking a 12-year-old boy hostage and threatening to kill him has been sentenced.

Casey Betts was given two years in prison and five years probation Friday after pleading no contest in January to attempted kidnapping and burglary charges.

Betts was arrested in July after he walked into a house in the 11800 block of Southeast Yamhill Street while armed with a rock.

He had originally wanted to take a girl from inside the house hostage, but wound up grabbing Manuel Miramontes from a nearby truck.

Arriving police had to shock Betts with Tasers in order to reach the boy.

Police said it appeared Betts took the boy hostage in hopes of being killed by officers.

Last month, the officers involved received Life Saving Medals and Manuel was given a Police Medal for his "courage and quick actions."
