Crews put out a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Southeast Portland in under a half-hour, officials say.
The fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. at a building near Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Stephens Street. When the fire crews first arrived they found flames spreading from one unit to another.
A second-alarm was called shortly before 8 p.m. to bring additional resources to the scene. Firefighters say they were able to put out the fire before the flames spread. Officials say the strong east wind from Saturday fueled the fire.
Teams had to cut large holes into the roof to vent the flames upward through the attic, officials say. Everyone who was in their apartment at the time of the fire got out safely, officials say. Some residents had to board a Trimet bus to keep warm until the Red Cross was ready to offer help.
Damage is estimated at $100,000, firefighters say.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
