Man shot after roadside confrontation

GRANTS PASS, OR (KPTV) -

Sunday night, 27-year-old Sidney Thompson reported to police that he had shot someone after a confrontation on the side of the road.

Deputies say that Timothy Correia passed Thompson as they were driving down Cloverlawn Drive in Grants Pass. While passing, Correia is reported to have swerved towards Thompson's vehicle. As a result, both drivers pulled to the side of the road and the situation escalated into a physical fight. Police say Correia hit Thompson in the face, prompting him to shoot Correia one time in the torso.

Correia was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in fair condition.

Thompson was detained for questioning but has not been arrested.
