Mayor announces new city development initiative

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A new initiative by the City of Portland and the Portland Development Commission will help boost business growth for several struggling east side neighborhoods.

Mayor Adams announced the initiative today and highlighted the six areas that qualified for assistance under the new plan.

Northeast 42nd Avenue, Cully Boulevard, Parkrose, Rosewood and two sections of Southeast Division Street will receive funding to help with economic development.

Each neighborhood had to meet specific requirements to qualify for the funding.

Currently, each neighborhood is experiencing a higher than 16 percent poverty rate.
