SALEM, OR (KPTV) -
Six pounds of heroin are off the street after a traffic stop on Interstate 5.
Oregon State Police pulled over German Gonzalez-Almejo in Salem for a traffic violation on Tuesday morning.
After searching the car with a canine, police say they found 1 1/2 pounds of black tar heroin hidden inside. Drug Enforcement detectives then got a search warrant and found an additional 4 1/2 pounds of heroin in a second hidden location in the car.
Police say the heroin is worth an estimated $272,000.
Police say Gonzalez-Almejo is from Tijuana. He is now behind bars in the Marion County Jail charged with unlawful possession and delivery of a controlled substance.
