The Portland Timbers are teaming up with Friends of Trees volunteers to plant trees in Northeast Portland on Saturday.
The group will plant nearly 200 street and yard trees in the Boise, Eliot, Humboldt and King neighborhoods, as part of the Stand Together platform. A spokesperson for the Portland Timbers says Stand Together signifies the relationship between the team and the community.
As for the Friends of Trees, Saturday's planting project is part of its Plant it Portland! campaign, which began last fall as a partnership with the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services.
Volunteers say the goal of the three-year campaign is to create awareness for the need of trees along Portland streets. So far, they have planted nearly 6,000 street trees.
