Portland man arrested after pursuit on Highway 101

LINCOLN CITY, OR (KPTV) -

Deputies in Lincoln County, OR, have arrested a Portland man accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase along Highway 101.

Officers pulled over 40-year-old Matthew Thomas Shearer for a minor traffic violation on Sunday near Otter Rock.

Lincoln County Deputy Derek Etheridge said Shearer initially pulled over but then sped away after deputies first approached his car.

Deputies said Shearer led them on a high-speed chase for nearly 10 miles, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph. Investigators said Shearer eventually lost control of his car and hit a guardrail just south of Kernville.

Shearer was taken into custody and transported to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

Shearer was booked into the Lincoln County Jail where for various charges, including attempting to elude, reckless driving and criminal mischief. His bail was set at $95,000.
