PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A family is trying to get answers after one of their own got severely beaten early Sunday morning.
Paul Walker's family says he was at a friend's house near the corner of SE 93rd and Pardee Street for a poker game when he heard an argument outside.
They say he went out to find a man beating a woman. Walker's family says the 47-year-old jumped in to stop the fight and that's when he ended up becoming the victim.
Walker suffered serious head trauma. His injury was so bad, doctors had to drill a hole in his skull to drain the liquid and ease the pressure off his brain.
Walker's family believes his attacker used a weapon.
"When you walk in the room and you see Paul, your heart just leaps out of your chest because he's a wonderful, vibrant person and he's just laying there, he's not moving," his sister, Daydra Bradley, said.
Portland police detectives interviewed witnesses and people involved but have not made any arrests because they believe there is more to the story. They've now sent the matter to the grand jury to let them decide whether or not the suspect should be charged.
So far, doctors aren't saying if any of Walker's injuries will be permanent or if he will survive.
