PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
People with disabilities and the elderly who use TriMet's LIFT paratransit service will soon be paying more for each ride.
TriMet's board voted unanimously Wednesday to raise the fee by 30 cents each year until it matches the all-zone fare, which is currently $2.40.
The agency proposed the fare increase because it said the cost and growth of the LIFT service is unsustainable. While a LIFT ride currently costs the passenger $1.85, it costs TriMet $29 per ride, according to the agency.
The fare increase will also raise the price of an unlimited LIFT Pass from $52 to $72.
The hike will be phased in on April 1, 2012, and April 1, 2013.
