ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -
A man accused of shooting at police officers in Astoria appeared in court Wednesday after a language barrier delayed his arraignment.
Yevgeniy Savinskiy was in court Tuesday but said he was having trouble understanding, so a Russian interpreter was provided for him.
In court, the district attorney asked for the suspect to be held without bail because he believes Savinskiy is involved in a Ponzi scheme.
On Feb. 12, two officers confronted Savinskiy in a room at the Lamplighter Motel and he opened fire, according to police.
The officers fired back and hit Savinskiy twice.
Investigators say they later found an assault rifle, ammunition and a vest containing magazines for the rifle inside Savinskiy's motel room.
